Why Didn't I Get Sent for a Scan

While scans are amazing diagnostic tools, we consider a number of factors before deciding to refer you for an xray, ultrasound or MRI.

Reason #1: If a scan result won’t change your treatment plan, we won’t refer you for one.

Reason #2: Back pain research shows that knowing too much about your scan can be detrimental to your recovery

Reason #3: Scans are a significant cost to you and the health system

Reason #4: We send for scans straight away if we are concerned about an injury that needs a specialised treatment plan

Reason #5: We treat the symptoms you have, Not the result of the scan. Damage seen on a scan does not equate to the pain you feel.

Reason #6: Scans depend on the skill of the sonographer taking the image and the radiographer reading the image. They aren't 100% accurate.
