Who can benefit from solemaids?

Is your child experiencing heel pain during sports or physical activity? They might be suffering from Sever's disease, a common condition in growing children aged 7–14, caused by inflammation of the heel's growth plate due to repetitive stress from impact activities like running and jumping.

What is severs disease?

Severs is a stress injury to the growth plate at the heel. When children are growing, their growth plates are open and much weaker than fully developed bone. Repetitive impact to this growth plate, commonly experienced in active children, can cause inflammation to this area. The inflammation results in swelling and pain that commonly stops kids from participating in their normal sports.

How does severs affect your child?

Treatment options

Mainstream treatment options include heel raises, heel cups, strengthening, stretching, ice, and load management. You may have tried one or all of these already. These treatments work to treat the signs and symptoms of severs but once kids return to sport, it is often their pain comes straight back.

At BeachLife Physiotherapy, we're excited to offer a new solution – Solemaids. Developed by leading foot specialists in Denmark, these custom-fitted insoles are designed specifically to alleviate heel pain from Sever's disease. Unlike the above listed treatment modalities and other generic inserts, Solemaids feature a unique foam-based wedge that suspends the heel bone, redistributing pressure away from the inflamed area. Therefore, directly removing the cause of inflammation (the repetitive stress on the heel) rather than just treating the signs/symptoms.

The process

Our certified physiotherapists provide a thorough assessment to determine if your child’s heel pain is due to severs disease. They will conduct a fitting, and immediately customise an insole for your child in session so your child can resume their favourite activities quickly and without discomfort.
